Walking Meditation

Lesson 2 of 4

Walking as Meditation

Walking meditation brings mindfulness into motion. With each step, we arrive fully in the present moment. We walk not to arrive anywhere, but to be fully present with each step. Every step is a miracle — we are walking on the Earth, this beautiful planet.

Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.

Practice Instructions

Choose a quiet path, indoors or outdoors, about 30 feet long. Stand still for a moment, feeling your feet on the ground. Begin walking slowly, coordinating your steps with your breathing. Perhaps two or three steps for each in-breath, and two or three steps for each out-breath. Smile gently as you walk. There is nowhere to arrive — each step is your destination.
